Manslaughter 777 announce God’s World widely; new single “I Do Not Believe In Art” available only from Thrill Jockey and Bandcamp
Manslaughter 777, the duo composed of drummers/programmers Lee Buford (The Body, Sightless Pit, Dead Times, Everyone Asked About You) and Zac Jones (MSC, Nothing, Braveyoung) have officially announced new album God's World, out on July 25th. If you were hesitating after the subscriber exclusive presale… don’t wait too long! Subscribers jumped on the limited Orange version and almost half are already gone.
Manslaugher 777 shared the opening track, "I Do Not Believe In Art," via Bandcamp and on our site. The song embodies their boundless love of beat music and their distinct ability to great distinctive grooves that pulse that smashes apart expectations. God's World will be released exclusively on LP, with bespoke jackets designed and hand-silk screened by the band. Digital version available only with download coupon or via Bandcamp and the Thrill Jockey site.
Manslaughter 777 are powerhouses of forward-thinking rhythmic music and production. The duo combine their prowess as percussionists and producers into beat-centric music that delights in turning unexpected sounds into razor sharp rhythms. Buford and Jones, along with engineer/producer Seth Manchester of Machines with Magnets (The Body, Model/Actriz, Liturgy), have collaborated for nearly two decades, consistently shattering genre boundaries and redefining the role of the studio in the process. God’s World uses innovative sound sampling to create expansive sonics driven by complex rhythms. The resulting album’s infectious grooves are both celebratory and irreverent.
The duo deftly interweave their own playing into field recordings and synthesized drums. The taut pieces blur the boundaries between acoustic and electronic instruments, samples and performances. “It’s kind of strange to be making music like this using acoustic sounds,” Jones continues, “but I think that adds a special element to it, sampling our own playing and being very meticulous about the sounds we get out of those.” Manslaughter 777 have their own unique cadence, built on a deep affection for beat music, but untethered by any adherence to one specific style or set of rules. The duo imbue their music with a sinewy pulse and sense of dynamic care that lends a humanity to their unyielding arrangements. God’s World is an album whose electrifying turns and gripping compounds, in pursuit of lush, incendiary grooves, is a thrilling and joyous expressive delight.
We snuck into the print shop when they were working on this-check it out! You might see Chip from The Body, our own Mike, and a glimpse of Mel! Sadly, though, no Derek or Zac :(
God's World available exclusively on LP, grab the limited Orange LP, packaged in a bespoke hand silk-screen printed cover, designed and printed by the band.
After her sold out record release show, we asked Thalia to dig into the tracks on her acclaimed new album The Boat Outside Your Window
It’s been 2 weeks since Thalia Zedek Band’s new album was released, receiving high praise from critics, fans, radio DJs, and more! We asked Thalia to break down her songs for us so we could share it with you. Keep reading below for the track-by-track breakdown, while you listen to “Pin.” Check out photos from the record release show by Ben Stas in Thalia’s hometown of Boston, MA while you’re at it!
Tsunami - This was actually the last track that I wrote for the album. I had the verses written for a while but it wasn’t until I came up with the opening guitar figure that the whole song fell together. It’s probably one of the band’s favorites now.
Aliyah - A song about the ancient tower of Babel and the utter communication breakdown that humankind is currently in the midst of
Pin - A song that I had been living with for a while, about a city and place that I only see in my dreams
Naming Names - A song about feeling betrayed and coming to accept other people’s flaws.
Disarm - a story about medical emergencies, separation and reunification that happened to people close to me.
Circus - This was actually written during the pandemic but is just as relevant today as we watch our nation as we have known it disappearing.
Boat - A postcard from Norway
Shoes - A song inspired by Berlin, then and now. Subway stations once used for human transport, the piles of shoes on display at Concentration Camps and the stones all over the city with the names of people who used to live on each street who were departed during the 30’s and 40’s. The past and present live cheek to cheek in today’s Berlin, and bring up a lot of complicated feelings.
Dissolve - About letting go of the past and living in the present.
Under Weather - A song about fear, disease and drifting apart. Also my first time recording with a Flanger!
Summer is upon us – time to hit the road!

Spotlight on Liturgy’s 93696
“No other metal band pushes as hard as they do on 93696, a roller-coaster synthesis of every avenue Hunt-Hendrix has explored in the last 15 years… Liturgy courts less controversy these days, perhaps because so few dare make music at this empyrean scale.” - Bandcamp, Best of 2023
“One of the year's most unique and inspiring metal releases.” - Exclaim, best albums of 2023
"On a wildly ambitious 80-minute opus, Haela Ravenna Hunt-Hendrix’s shapeshifting metal band reaches its most radiant incarnation yet." - Pitchfork
Liturgy transcends the traditional parameters of what constitutes a rock band. Founded by Haela Ravenna Hunt-Hendrix, Liturgy is a part of a shared discipline of composition, art, and philosophy that thrives on exploring the spaces between. A profound sense of yearning and emotional depth weaves through the Liturgy’s dense layers and anchors the project’s increasingly complex and innovative work. 93696 is the purest synthesis of the diversity of Liturgy, a sprawling and monumental double album exploring religion, cosmic love, the feminine, and metamorphosis while manifesting the ecstatic with breathtaking grandeur.
93696 is a number derived from the religions of Christianity and Thelema, a numerological representation of heaven, or a new eon for civilization. Hunt-Hendrix composed the album as an exploration of eschatological possibility divided by the four “laws” that govern her own interpretation of heaven, “Haelegen”: Sovereignty, Hierarchy, Emancipation, and Individuation. These laws constitute the four movements of 93696 which act as dramas all their own within the framework of the record. Throughout the movements, Hunt- Hendrix invokes the album’s myriad of personal and conceptual themes through the ensemble’s sheer force of sound, her will and intent blossoming from each bombarding gale. Hunt-Hendrix’s keening voice sows passionate crescendos and imagist poetry into the elaborate arrangements.
Liturgy’s signature use of rhythmic complexity and repetition are exponentially amplified to maximalist proportions on 93696. Along with guitarist Mario Miron, bassist Tia Vincent- Clark, and drummer Leo Didkovsky, Hunt-Hendrix utilizes Liturgy’s past ruminations on burst beats and circuitous phrases as colors to paint rich murals that overwhelm and invigorate the senses. By seamlessly incorporating disparate sources, from “Djenneration”’s trap shuffle to the spackled glitches of “Before I Knew the Truth” to the robotic cadence on “Haelegen II,” Hunt-Hendrix employs another facet of her musical voice into the compositions, a defiant proclamation of agency and independence in the face of expectation.
The music of Liturgy is in a constant state of searching. In pursuit of larger truths, be they philosophical or personal, Haela Ravenna Hunt-Hendrix and her band imbue their music with a sense of urgency and ceaseless longing. 93696 reflects the awe of the unknowable and celebrates what revelations and mysteries lie ahead.
